Learn More About Our Vancouver Firm’s History & Lawyers
Paine Edmonds has proudly served British Columbians for over 70 years. Providing peace of mind to its clients has been the core of the firm’s values from day one.
Our firm was started by a pair of UBC Law graduates, Paul Britton Paine and William Henry Kemp Edmonds, in 1945. Following their graduation from UBC Law, both Mr. Paine and Mr. Edmonds initially worked in their own practices. Mr. Paine left his practice to proudly serve with the Canadian navy during the Second World War and upon his return from service, he joined forces with Mr. Edmonds and “Paine Edmonds” was born. They would go on to build the firm from its humble roots and lay the foundation for the quality legal services we continue to provide today. Mr. Edmonds’ legacy is carried on today by his son, Henry Edmonds, who has been a partner at the firm for over 20 years.
Throughout its years since inception, Paine Edmonds has had the privilege of being home to highly distinguished lawyers amongst the profession including but certainly not limited to Allan Williams (former Attorney General of British Columbia), Leonard C. Dudley, and J. Lyle Woodley (who was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1982). Today, our firm is led by senior managing partner Steven H. Heringa, a highly regarded and distinguished lawyer in the area of personal injury. From his success in the Supreme Court of Canada in the ground-setting decision of Hall v. Hebert to his mentoring lawyers who have become prominent and respected lawyers throughout British Columbia, Steve’s leadership has helped ensure that Paine Edmonds will continue its success for years to come.
